The Impaler Returns to Canada

The Toronto Blue Jays have signed veteran designated hitter/outfielder Vladimir Guerrero to a minor league contract. He will report to the Blue Jays extended spring training camp in Dunedin, FL. If and when the Blue Jays call up Guerrero, he will return to Canada where his major league career began with the then Montreal Expos.

Guerrero posted a .290/.317/.416 slash line with 13 homers and 63 RBI in 590 plate appearances last year with the Baltimore Orioles. The player perhaps most impacted by his signing is Jays first baseman Adam Lind, who is hitting just .198/.283/.347 with 3 HR and 10 RBI so far this season. Guerrero could slide into the DH slot while the Jays current DH and hottest hitter to this point, Edwin Encarnacion, would take over at first.
